This is a space where I share thoughts and ideas on dance mechanics, the holistic aspects of breath and subtle body energy, and uncovering the mind-body connection.

Let’s Do the Twist
FCBD®Style steps like slow turns, Egyptian basic and some pivot bump family moves show off the beautiful twisty and spiral shapes that our bodies can make in motion. A twist is essentially when our shoulders and hips are facing different directions…

Butt What About the Glutes?
We all use the term "glutes" and most people assume by "glutes" we are referring to both butt cheeks. BUTT, did you know that there are THREE gluteus muscles on each hip? You've heard of the gluteus maximus, butt what about the gluteus medius and gluteus minimus? They don't get the attention they deserve!

Fun Floreo Facts
This week I went live on my Facebook page for a new series I’m calling ‘Tuesday Talks’. I’ll be live every Tuesday at noon PDT to casually chat about a topic of choice. This week I discussed Hand Floreos. Specifically some fun facts we often don’t have time to teach in a regular class.

Why Do I Have To Wear Pants?
Somewhere around three years old, we start asking "why". Why is the sky blue, why can't I have ice cream for breakfast, why do I have to wear pants? Often our parents indulge us for a little while, but soon it turns into "because I said so". Growing up and even into our adult life, college, and first jobs we were brushed off in similar ways:

Social Media Not Sparking Joy?
This week I'm excited about a different kind of Spring Cleaning. Similar to Marie Condo's method, I'm analyzing what brings me joy and getting rid of everything else. Only it's not my underwear drawer...it's my social media.

My "Why" and how I'm letting it lead the way
This weekend I asked the dance community to post their favorite photos of their group and tell me why they dance. See video below for their results.
so today I thought I'd share my "why" and what fuels my passion for this specific style of dance.

Did the Wicked Witch have Imposter Syndrome?
"Imposter syndrome is loosely defined as doubting your abilities and feeling like a fraud.”

Learning To Trust My Body
Three years ago I had a really profound weekend at a weekend Yoga Training. It started with one of the teachers challenging us with this question “How can I treat, think and talk about my body in a negative way and then expect it to do amazing things when I ask?"
My brain exploded. I’m sure I had heard this before and probably even asked myself this question, but it seemed like a totally new concept at the time and it blew my mind. Mostly because I realized this is definitely something I needed to reflect on more…

Stability Switch
This week's mini flow plays with our stability, but as long as you keep your transverse abdominis (deep core) engaged, you'll find it's not only challenging, but also fun!

The Magic of Abhyanga
Getting back into my Ayurveda studies this month has been so beneficial to create a more personalized self care protocol. The same routine isn’t for everyone just like the same exercise regime won’t be beneficial to everyone.

Prioritizing good sleep is good self love!
As some of you know, I've been working on my Yoga Therapeutic Specialist certification and with that comes a lot of work in Nervous System, Mental Health and Wellness. These courses have come at a really great time for me and I'm putting some things in place to bring my own mental health and wellness into balance…

Extended Puja
The following is a very brief explanation of each pose in the puja. Please know there is A LOT more to this including…

Let’s Torso Twist
I LOVE to be able to say….”SEE..look! That’s it, you did it…now let’s add in arms and that is the bodywave!” Nothing makes me happier than showing people that they CAN do something they previously thought was impossible…

Cleaning Your Yoga Mat
Whether you practice daily, once a week or once a year, it’s important to clean your yoga mat!
How often you clean it, your cleaning method and how you store it really depends on your mat and personal preferences…

What's the Scoop?
Whether it's social media videos, General Skills, private lessons or Technique for Teachers....I see two small, but significant barrel turn details that I’d like to address…

Surya Namaskar A
There are many styles of yoga (just like there are many styles of belly dance) and finding the best fit for you might take some time…

What is Yoga
Most people think yoga is an exercise regimen of stretching and standing on your head while wearing tiny shorts on a white sand beach. This is actually so far from the truth…

How to Chose a Yoga Mat
September is National Yoga Month. I’ll be teaching live classes over on FCBDU and I’ll share a variety of resources on my Facebook page including how to care and clean your mat, sewing tutorials on mat bags and straps, ideas for reusing your old yoga mats as well as daily tips, sequences and educational information all about yoga!
II wanted to discuss yoga mats in advance for anyone who was interested in trying out a new mat or wondering if what they have is the right fit for theirs needs. Be sure to watch the video at the bottom of this post for a tour of my yoga mats, what I love about each one and why each one is so different.

Long Live Our Longissimus!
An old post from the vault, but still applicable.
I've been holding back on anatomy posts because I felt like I was boring people. Who wants to learn about anatomy and kinesiology when there is "new stuff" and "dialect". Well....us hard core technique lovers apparently! So I've decided to share more of what I love and not care so much about what others think. This is part of my "letting go" of trying to please others and becoming more self-aware of what I want to accomplish in life (more on that at a later time). So ready or not, I'm about to let my true geek nature fly…
